I love my city.
However, until recently it felt like my city never loved me back. My long-term goal in every move I made was to be able to be myself and stand out in this city until I could go off to school to a place that would have a better scene for those interested in street fashion, music, and culture. I felt like I was alone for years. Aside from a few of my friends that shared my same interests. I thought New York, Atlanta, Chicago....anywhere would be better than the boring, lame, unforgiving city of Memphis that I had become accustomed to. I prayed that someday I could be apart of the movement and culture that I loved.
In 2009, my prayers were answered. I don't really don't know how it all came together. It could have been a large amount of different forces coming together all around the same time. Between R. Sole, Sneak Peek, Strange Fruit, Drake, Skewby, Craig Brewer with 5$ Cover, Live From Memphis, & a lot of other forces, somehow shit all came together. It feels like Memphis is moving at mach speed in the right direction. Maybe all these forces were already here & just right under my nose. Who cares? I found a better Memphis....and I'm mad excited for the future.
Here at AYO! Memphis, I'm trying to tell our story. The story of a teen growing up in Memphis working with the powers at be to put my city on the map as the epicenter of style & grace that it once was! Along with help from my close friends & their close friends, we will bring you news from in and around our city, along with cool shit like videos, pics, interviews, and all that!
So...AYO! Memphis.......let's get it!
